About Me

I'm a 25-year-old writer, and self-described "bleeding [f]eart" on Child Liberation (CL) topics. I took the online name "Crake" from one of the titular characters in Margaret Atwood's Oryx and Crake, which was personally recommended to me by a high school English teacher who thought I reminded her of that devious and withdrawn young genius from the novel. I am no genius, of course. I turned out to be just a young man with opinions on the way the world regards and responds to children. I have a degree in Psychology, with a study emphasis on human development, child and adolescent psychology, and philosophy.

Feel free to comment and critique, I'm not a hard-head.

Love (and justice):

-Crake

  1. Your beliefs when it comes to children are very interesting. Some of the beliefs I haven't seen before, so I do look forward toward looking more of your work. However, it does make me wonder.

Why are you are interested so much in childhood? (I guess I am curious about why you choose your field in child and adolescent psychology)

    1. I've always assumed that I've been interested in how children develop and what is in their best interests since I was a child myself. When I was about seven years old, my sister was born, and I was often in charge of watching her, particularly later as she was growing up. So I naturally saw a living example of child development playing itself out before my eyes, and by the time I got older and read about Piaget's theory of cognitive development and later Vigotsky's social learning theory, much of the core principles I had always known growing up watching my sister develop were finally given names and confirmation. From there on, I was fascinated by the field.

Unfortunately for me, getting these perspectives on child development made me more and more aware of how other people often get it wrong, and it gave me a great respect for children and young people that I think is lost in mainstream culture. That's where I got interested in children's rights and youth rights... and my background in western philosophy also increased that line of thinking. I began to see history as a slow opening up of tolerance and the spread of human rights to everyone except children and youth, who are often still restricted and held back from participation in society for reasons that don't correspond to what the science of human development has taught us in the last 200 years, and that seem completely outdated.

That's essentially where all "this" come from.

      I welcome your interest.
